A MOOD, NOT A CHECKLIST

The kind of silence you can't buy.

Wind through the Land Cruiser window for five straight hours. A Wayuu grandmother handing you an arepa still warm from the fire. Stars so loud they feel like a sound. La Guajira doesn't perform for you — it lets you in, quietly, if you show up ready.

Heads up · Read before booking

This is a real expedition. Not a resort trip.

La Guajira is one of the most remote corners of South America — that's why it looks like nowhere else. Part of the deal: early starts, long drives on unpaved tracks, generator-run electricity in the rancherías, cold-to-tepid showers in Alta Guajira, and real weather. We build the trip around private 4×4s, Starlink, Garmin beacons, and a bilingual guide so you're cared for the whole way — but comfort here means premium-for-the-desert, not premium-for-a-resort.

Built for
Adventurous travelers, couples, small groups, photographers.
Not ideal for
Travelers needing hospital-grade access, resort amenities, or strict mobility support.
Fitness level
Moderate. No technical hiking, but you'll be on your feet and in a truck for long stretches.
If any of this raises a flag for you or anyone in your party, WhatsApp us before booking — we'll tell you honestly if this trip is the right fit.

Frequently Asked

Questions we get asked a lot.

Straight answers. No fluff.

How rough is it? Is it comfortable?
La Guajira is remote, but the trip is engineered for comfort. You start with a soft landing at a curated beachfront boutique in Palomino, then move into a private Toyota Land Cruiser (4 guests per vehicle, max 8 per departure — you never share with strangers) for a two-day expedition with overnights in an authentic Wayuu ranchería (private room, private bathroom) and Hospedaje Luzmila at Punta Gallinas. Starlink satellite internet in the vehicle, Garmin emergency beacon, bilingual guide. Raw landscape, premium operation.
When's the best time to go? Does rainy season change the trip?
La Guajira runs year-round, and each window has its own character. Jan–Aug (dry season): full 4×4 overland expedition to Punta Gallinas — classic desert-to-sea. Sep–Dec (rainy season): Alta Guajira tracks can be impassable, so the Cabo de la Vela → Punta Gallinas leg runs by boat instead (1.5–2 hr Caribbean crossing — most operators can't offer this). Same expedition, different texture. We absorb the seasonal supplement, so your price doesn't change. High season (Dec–Mar, Jul–Aug) books 15–30 days ahead — reserve early.
What about bathrooms, showers, and electricity?
All accommodations have private or shared bathrooms with running water and cold-to-tepid showers. Electricity runs on generators in the remote areas (Cabo de la Vela, Punta Gallinas) — usually on from sunset to late evening. Charge devices when available. Bring a power bank.
How should I engage respectfully with Wayuu culture?
You'll be welcomed into Wayuu communities with traditional meals and cultural exchanges. Dress modestly, ask before photographing people, and buy directly from Wayuu artisans (their mochila bags are world-famous). Our guides lead every interaction — you won't have to navigate it alone.
Is Colombia safe for international travelers?
We've been running trips here for 60 years. Every route is pre-scouted, every hotel vetted, every transfer private. You'll have a 24/7 WhatsApp line to our team the entire trip. This is what we do.
Do your guides speak English?
Fluently. Every Osotur guide is fully bilingual — English and Spanish. No translation apps, no awkward moments. You'll connect with the culture directly.
Is travel insurance included?
Not included — we recommend buying it from your home country (World Nomads, SafetyWing, Allianz all work great for Colombia). It's inexpensive and worth the peace of mind.
How does payment work?
PayPal. Buyer protection, any major card, no account needed. $500 deposit holds your spot, balance due 30 days before departure. Fully documented, fully protected.
What's the cancellation policy?
Full refund up to 60 days out. Within 60 days, your deposit becomes a credit toward a future trip (valid 12 months). Within 30 days, standard industry terms apply. We recommend trip cancellation insurance.
Can I customize the itinerary?
Always. Our packages are the most popular routes, but we build custom trips constantly — honeymoons, family groups, extended stays. WhatsApp us with what you're thinking.
